The Royal Mint of Great Britain made history in 2016 when they launched a new series of silver and gold bullion coins commemorating the 10 legendary Queen’s Beasts Statues.
These statues were created in 1953 by British sculptor, James Woodford. At 6’ each, they stood guard at Westminster Abbey as the young Queen Elizabeth II was coronated after the death of her father, King George VI. Each of the 10 statues represent a section of the Queen’s powerful genealogy, and have symbolically guarded them throughout her reign.
With epic, heraldic Queen’s Beasts designs created by well-known British artist Jody Clark, the first release in the bullion coin series commemorating the Lion of England immediately grew to popularity all over the world.
Now in 2017, the Royal Mint is following up the early success of the Queen’s Beasts bullion coin series with something special – a Queen’s Beasts Proof coin series!
This group of collector’s coins will also honor the 10 Queen’s Beasts statues with the same designs as the bullion coin series, but struck with much sharper detail and finer quality. These coins will be issued two per year until complete, starting with the Lion of England.
