The price of gold in America rose to a high of $1528 over the last three weeks. This was announced last Wednesday, London time. Global stock markets were unable to increase gains in spite of Goldman Sachs issuing a bullish note on this sector.

Sterling gold prices were at the £942 mark. This was £2 below the level just the day before, which happened to be an all time high. Euro gold got in on the act and hit another record for the 3rd consecutive day at €1084 per ounce. 

The governor of the Banque de France, Christian Noyer expressed his concern that Greece would default if the country's debt were restructured. He was addressing Parisian journalists about the matter and described this as a "horror scenario."

Greek government officials were pressurized to state they the country was not due to call a snap election. Restructuring debt in Greece would mean that Greek government bonds would be unacceptable as collateral for loans. These sentiments were expressed by Jurgen Stark is an executive board member.
